METHOD :
Prepare the Texas Toast:
Preheat the oven or toaster oven to 375°F (190°C). Spread softened butter on both sides of the Texas toast slices. If desired, mix minced garlic into the butter for extra flavor. Toast until golden and crispy, about 5-7 minutes.Cook the Filling:
In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
Add onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Cook for 3-4 minutes, until softened.
Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, chili powder (if using), salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens.Assemble the Sloppy Joes:
Place a slice of toasted Texas toast on a plate. Spoon a generous amount of the Sloppy Joe filling on top. Add shredded cheese, pickles, or jalapeños if desired. Top with another slice of Texas toast or serve open-faced.Serve & Enjoy:
